New collaboration aims to stamp out support software piracy in India
November 15, 2011A cooperative effort undertaken by the Indian government and the Business Software Alliance will see the industry group provide extensive guidance to the economically burgeoning nation on how best to protect its support software industry from the threat of piracy.
According to the BSA's announcement, the group will also meet with Indian business leaders to make a push for better-regulated software use.
"Our partnership promotes legal, secure software use throughout the marketplace. It also highlights additional opportunities to spur continued technological innovation and growth," the organization's CEO, Robert Holleyman, said in a statement.
The group said that 6.4 percent of India's GDP is provided by the software industry, adding that it employs 2.5 million people in the country. However, a recent BSA report found additional room for improvement in regulation and government support that could make the sector even more competitive.
The BSA has taken a more confrontational stance with regard to another growing support software industry, accusing the Chinese government of doing little to curb piracy there.
